Football Kenya Federation has waived gate charges for the Kenyan Women National Team, Harambee Starlets’ Women Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier against Cameroon, in a bid to rally support behind the team’s bid for a second-ever WAFCON appearance.
According to a statement from the federation, fans can access the venue of the match for free starting at 12 noon. Schools and academies have also been invited and shall enjoy a designated sitting area.
The match is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Nyayo Stadium starting at 3 p.m.
Starlets lost 1-0 in the first leg played on Friday, September 22, 2023, in Douala, and will be looking to overturn that deficit on Tuesday.
The team returned to Kenya from Cameroon on Sunday, September 24, 2023, and will head straight to camp to continue their preparations for the crucial second leg match, whose winner faces the winner of yet another qualifier pitting Botswana against Gabon.
Should Harambee Starlets overturn their first leg loss, they will face either Gabon or Botswana in the second round, scheduled between November 27 and December 5, 2023.
The victor of the second round will secure automatic qualification for the 2024 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, hosted in Morocco.
Harambee Starlets coach Beldine Odemba said: “I believe my team still has a chance to qualify for the next round. We have noted areas that we need to work on and we will be ready for the return leg in Nairobi.”
