A dramatic incident in Garissa left many shocked as a young man, disguised as a woman in a traditional buibui, was exposed for attempting to scam a senior official from Isiolo County.
The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, went to great lengths to portray himself as a woman, donning a bralette, black top, and a buibui to complete the disguise. His plan, however, backfired when suspicions were raised during an encounter with the targeted official, leading to his arrest.
Caught in the Act
At the police station, the suspect was forced to strip out of the buibui and return to his regular clothing, which included jeans trousers. A video of the incident, capturing the suspect’s transformation from his female disguise back to his true identity, quickly went viral, sparking widespread discussions across social media platforms.
Family Scheme to Raise Money
According to Mahat Ali Kappaze, who visited the police station, the suspect’s family orchestrated the elaborate deception as a desperate attempt to raise money for rent and food. “They planned to stop this scheme a day before he was caught,” Mahat revealed. He also mentioned that the suspect’s mother had managed to buy a car using the proceeds from their fraudulent activities.
The shocking incident has drawn attention to the extremes some individuals and families resort to in times of financial desperation, fueling conversations on ethics, poverty, and the implications of such schemes.
