Tragic Incident Follows Heated Argument About Lost Cash

A fisherman from Litare Beach, Rusinga Island in Homa Bay County, tragically died by suicide following a domestic dispute with his wife over missing Sh9,000. The 28-year-old, identified as David Ochieng, reportedly accused his wife of taking the money, which he claimed to have hidden in their home.
The disagreement, according to reports, escalated into a heated argument after Ochieng discovered the money was missing. Litare Beach Management Unit Chairman, Isaiah Pero, revealed that Ochieng had a history of threatening to take his life during marital disputes.
“Ochieng often threatened to end his life whenever he had disagreements with his wife,” said Pero. Hours after the argument, Ochieng was found dead, having hanged himself from the roof of their rented house. His wife was not at home at the time of the incident, and his lifeless body was discovered by a neighbor who quickly alerted local officials and the police.
It is suspected that Ochieng took the drastic step after returning home later to find his wife absent. The body has since been moved to Kirindo Morgue, where it awaits a postmortem examination to confirm the cause of death.
This tragic event highlights the importance of mental health awareness and addressing conflicts within relationships before they escalate into irreversible consequences. Local authorities continue to investigate the incident.
