Mafuta vows to lead Mwatate United to KPL - Kenyan News

Mwatate United coach Evans Mafuta has vowed to lead the National Super League team to the Kenya Premier League next season.

“My target is KPL qualification next season. Nothing less,” said Mafuta who is currently doing his CAF B course in Nairobi.

Mafuta has already parted ways with 14 players and is keen to recruit 11.

“Last season, we had 33 players. This is a high number because the club is financially strained and it makes coaching difficult. I want to have a maximum of 25 players next season so we have to part ways with more players to create room for others,” said Mafuta.

He added that he has already identified the prospective recruits but he has not completed the process of signing them.

“We sat down with the management and set out our objectives. We are in the process of signing new players,” he added in a telephone interview on Saturday.

“In the first leg, I will target a top three position then in the second leg, I push for promotion,” added Mafuta who previously coached Eldoret Youth, Vihiga Bullets and Nairobi Stima.

Mafuta who joined Mwatate with eight games to go last season said he achieved his targets.

“My target was to win four games which I did. We drew two and lost just one out of seven. I’m happy with that and I’m now looking forward to next season,” he added.
