The Ministry of Education has announced school opening dates for the first term of 2024.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry on Christmas, pre-primary, primary and secondary schools will open on January 8, 2024.
Meanwhile, students joining Form 1 will report to their respective schools on January 15.
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu issued a directive for field officers to be present at their duty stations on all working days, to assist parents in the necessary preparations for the upcoming 2024 school calendar.
Machogu further appealed to parents and guardians to actively support learners in readying themselves for the imminent school reopening.
He urged parents to exercise their utmost parental responsibility of protecting their children during the festive season noting that there are many temptations that can lead learners astray.
The CS, particularly noted that caregivers needed to caution their children against the dangers of drug and substance abuse which has become prevalent in some parts of the country.
Even with the government’s communication, the reporting dates may be challenging for students in Juniour Secondary School (JSS) as over 20,000 intern teachers issued a strike notice beginning on the 1st term of 2024.
The intern JSS teachers have been in a row with the Teachers Service Commission over their request for permanent and pensionable job status.
The JSS teachers are protesting the commission’s decision to retain them as interns on a stipend for the 2nd year.
