After obliterating a strong field at the Silesia Diamond League leg, Commonwealth Games gold medalist Mary Moraa is now setting her eyes on the World Athletics Championships podium finish.
Moraa who is unbeaten this season so far heads to the Monaco Diamond League on July 21 as she seeks to defend her diamond league trophy which she won last year.
In the Diamond League series, Moraa has so far recorded victories in Rabat and Lausanne legs. She skipped Paris and Florence, Italy legs.
In Monaco, she is likely to run the one-lap race as she intensifies preparations for the World Championships.
On Sunday, Moraa broke the Silesia meet record and recorded her season-best in 1:56.85 beating Ugandan Halimah Nakaayi to second place while Jamaica’s Natoya Goule-Toppin was third.
Commenting on her season so far, the Mogonga PAG alumni said: “I’m happy with my season so far. I hope to be fit and on form ahead on the World Athletics Championships in Budapest in August.”
On her performance in Silesia, she said: “My tactics worked perfectly today. My running style is to take charge of the race and run from the front. I’m glad I improved my personal best. I thank God.”
In Budapest, she is targeting a gold medal but admits she faces stiff competition from World and Olympic champion Athing Mu of the US. “Nothing is impossible. I will go head to head with her in Budapest.” The World Athletics Championships will be held from August 19 50 27 in Budapest, Hungary.
