The Departmental Committee on Agriculture and Livestock from the National Assembly is set to visit Kisii and Nyamira counties on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, as part of a field visit aimed at addressing ongoing concerns over tea bonuses.

The committee will begin its visit at Nyansiongo Tea Factory in Nyamira County at 10:00 am, followed by a session at Kiamokama Tea Factory in Kisii County at 2:00 pm.

These visits come in response to complaints from tea farmers in the region, who have raised issues about reduced and delayed bonuses, which have severely impacted their income.

The public hearings will provide a platform for tea farmers to air their grievances and seek solutions to the challenges they face.

The committee’s visit aims to gather firsthand information from stakeholders and work towards addressing the pressing issues in the tea industry.

Tea farming plays a critical role in the economy of Kisii and Nyamira, and the bonuses are a significant source of income for many households in the region.
