Kisii Sports Club golf captain says the new committee will focus on a massive recruitment drive of new golfers, especially ladies and children.
Monari, who was re-elected unopposed, termed the newly elected committee as very strong and ready to hit the ground running. Monari said the new committee is a mix of society members who ‘bring a lot to the table’.
“We shall have more training for new golfers as well as juniors from two USGA-certified trainers,” said Monari.
He further said they expect larger and better corporations to come in to sponsor golf tournaments and support course development.
Monari was elected unopposed because he was the only one to apply for the position after the application and nomination process closed, said club secretary Lawrence Nyangena.
Josephat Omayo was elected the vice-captain also unopposed. Omayo takes over from Joseph Ogweche Misiani, who did not defend his seat after serving two terms.
Elizabeth Mose is the new lady captain, and Geoffrey Ombachi is the new greens keeper, replacing Andrew Nyanusi, who did not defend his seat.
Business mogul Rodgers Moturi, Alphanus Mokaya, and Mary Momanyi were elected as committee members to serve for a period of one year, said Nyangena.
“On behalf of the elections board and the executive committee, I congratulate the new officials and wish them well in execution of their mandate,” said Nyangena.
On the development of the course, Monari added that some of the major improvements include greens irrigation, water features, restrooms on the course, more sand bunkers, as well as fully securing the course perimeter.
Monari said their other objective in the year 2026 is to retain the Western Captain’s League title.
Kisii narrowly beat Kericho Golf Club to win the second edition of the league. Kisii garnered 66.67 points to win the title, with Kericho amassing 66.66 points.
Nandi Bears Club was third with 65.17 points, Nyanza Golf Club fourth with 45.83, and Eldoret fifth with 40.00. Kakamega Sports Club came sixth with 33.67 points. This year, the league, which is played at every club, will feature seven clubs following the inclusion of Kitale Golf Club.
