Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has filed a petition in the High Court seeking urgent intervention to address the mysterious abductions of seven young men in December. Through his lawyer, Philip Langat, Omtatah has sued the Inspector General of Police, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Demands for Accountability

In his application, filed at the High Court in Kibera, Omtatah is demanding that law enforcement agencies produce the seven missing youths—whether dead or alive. The individuals named in the petition are Gideon Kibet, Ronny Kiplagat, Steve Kavingo Mbisi, Billy Mwangi, Peter Muteti, Bernard Kavuli, and Kelvin Muthoni.

Alternatively, the senator is requesting a court order for the immediate release of the seven if they are being held in detention.

Legal Representation

Omtatah was accompanied to the Milimani Law Courts by lawyer Philip Langat and advocate Felix Keaton as they presented the petition on Monday. The case highlights growing public frustration over what is perceived as inaction and lack of accountability from the country’s law enforcement agencies regarding abductions and enforced disappearances.

A Call for Justice

The petition is part of broader efforts by activists and human rights organizations to pressure the government to address the alarming rise in abductions. Omtatah’s legal move underscores the urgency of ensuring justice for the victims and their families while holding authorities accountable for protecting citizens’ rights.
