Criminal Gang Linked to Violent Attacks Taken Down in Major Operation

Eight suspects belonging to a machete-wielding gang that has been terrorizing residents of Bamburi, Mombasa, were apprehended in a police operation. The arrests were made in Kijipwa, Kilifi County, following a coordinated ambush in the Bombo area of Kisauni.
The gang is accused of orchestrating a string of violent attacks in Bamburi, including a recent horrific incident where a victim’s hand was severed. During the operation, police recovered machetes, mobile phones, and other stolen items, linking the suspects to multiple crimes in the area.
Community Reacts to Arrests
Residents of Bamburi have expressed relief over the arrests, citing the gang’s reign of terror that has disrupted their daily lives. One resident, speaking emotionally, said, “If we had the opportunity, we would have dealt with them ourselves. We haven’t even enjoyed the New Year celebrations because of fear.”
Another resident added, “These young people have been causing us trouble. Why is it that crime increases when schools close? This suggests that school students are part of these activities.”
Police Efforts to Restore Safety
The arrests mark a significant step in restoring security to Bamburi and surrounding areas. Authorities have vowed to continue the crackdown on criminal elements to ensure residents feel safe in their communities.
Community Support Urged
Police have urged locals to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities promptly. They believe community involvement is key to dismantling organized crime groups and maintaining long-term peace.
