A police officer was arrested in a multi-agency operation targeting a shisha lounge in Nairobi, suspected of being a hub for drug trafficking and underage sex exploitation. The operation, led by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), and the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), exposed the illegal activities carried out at the premises.
Surveillance and Raid Details
Law enforcement officials revealed that the establishment had been under surveillance due to allegations of drug peddling and sex trafficking. Acting on prior intelligence, the multi-agency team raided the lounge, uncovering evidence of criminal activities.
Upon entering the premises, officers arrested a police officer identified as the owner of the establishment. The officer was found armed with an unlicensed CZ pistol loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.
Seized Items and Allegations
The raid resulted in the seizure of:
- A CZ pistol loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.
- 20 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition.
- Marijuana and shisha bongs suspected to be laced with drugs.
Investigations also uncovered shocking details of underage girls trafficked from refugee camps in neighboring countries and exploited at the premises. Authorities suspect that both the officer and his wife, who was not present during the raid, were complicit in the criminal activities.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
The officer was taken into custody and booked at Muthaiga Police Station. He is awaiting arraignment at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Law Courts.
