Two people have committed suicide in makueni, Nairobi this week.

Recent incidents in Nairobi, Makueni, and other regions have highlighted a troubling rise in suicide and drowning cases across Kenya, drawing attention to the need for mental health and safety interventions.

In Nairobi, a 52-year-old man tragically took his own life on Monday, reportedly hanging himself on a tree along the Dagoretti-Kikuyu railway line. Police reports indicate that the man used a white sisal rope, and a suicide note was found at the scene, though its contents have not been disclosed. His body was transported to St. Teresa’s morgue pending further examination.

Another heartbreaking incident occurred on Tuesday in Makueni, where a 14-year-old high school student was found dead in a similar manner. Police discovered her hanging in her home, with a sisal rope tied to a timber beam. Her body was moved to Sultan Hamud Sub-County Hospital for an autopsy.

Meanwhile, in Kiminini, Bungoma County, a resident alerted police to a body floating in the Nzoia River. Officers identified the deceased as a 31-year-old man, whose body was retrieved with assistance from local residents and later transferred to Kitale Referral Hospital for postmortem analysis.

Tragedy also struck in Nyandarua County, where a five-year-old boy accidentally drowned after falling into a 45-foot well within a rental compound. The child had been playing with other children when the incident occurred. Despite swift efforts to rescue him, he was declared dead upon arrival at Shamata Dispensary, and his body was subsequently taken to Nyahururu morgue.

These incidents, occurring within a short span, underscore the urgent need for both mental health awareness and safety measures. As suicide rates and preventable accidents become growing concerns in Kenya, there is a pressing call for community support, counseling resources, and preventive infrastructure to address this concerning trend.
