President William Ruto has issued a stern warning to contractors handling national government projects, declaring that underperformance will not be tolerated in 2025.

While inspecting the construction of the Kisii Cancer Centre on January 1, 2025, President Ruto expressed his dissatisfaction with the slow progress of the multi-billion-shilling project. The facility, whose groundbreaking ceremony he officiated in August 2024, was initially slated for completion by February 2026.
The president emphasized the government’s commitment to timely delivery of projects, highlighting that all payments for the cancer centre have already been made. He criticized delays, asserting that contractors who fail to meet expectations will face consequences.
“This year is about results. There is no excuse for delays. You have been paid, and there are no pending certificates. Contractors who let us down will not be allowed to continue,” President Ruto stated during his tour.
The Kisii Cancer Centre, valued at Ksh. 2.2 billion, is expected to significantly reduce the burden of cancer treatment for residents of the Lake Region once completed.
This announcement comes amidst growing criticism over stalled government infrastructure projects, with many Kenyans urging the administration to prioritize accountability and efficiency.
President Ruto reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring all government projects are completed on schedule, promising that 2025 will mark a turning point in service delivery.
