Shabana held Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) to a 1-12 draw in a build-up match at Kisii School on Wednesday afternoon.

Brian Michira scored for Shabana before Derrick Otanga pulled the team’s level just before halftime. Shabana heads to Kakamega where they will camp for seven days.

In Kakamega, Shabana will face Kakamega Homeboyz and Nzoia Sugar as coach Sammy Okoth tests his charges ahead of their KPL return on August 27 against Murang’a Seal at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.

“These friendly matches will help me test different formations and gauge the team before the league kicks off. We want to play another match at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay before the league starts,” he told reporters at Kisii Schoo, after the match.

He added: “Our pre season has had hiccups here and there but I hope there will be no challenge before we play our first match.” Coach Okoth further added he will use the 10 new players in the friendly matches. “I want to use these games to integrate the new players into the team. We are signing 11 new players. We retained 19 from the team that played last season so we want them to gel before the league starts,” he noted.

KCB coach Bernard Mwalala praised Shabana’s display. “They gave us a good game. They pushed us all the way which I’m happy about. This is a good pre season game,” said Mwalala. On Saturday, Shabana played to a barren draw against Muhoroni Youth at Muhoroni Stadium.
