Newly promoted Kenya Premier League side Shabana will play their home matches at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay, club secretary general Elizaphan Kerama announced on Thursday.

He made the announcement after Football Kenya Federation’s inspection team announced that William Ole Ntimama Stadium in Narok is unsuitable to host KPL matches in the current state.

The William ole Ntimama will host the Water Companies Sports Organisation (WASCO) games set for August 13-18 and the 42nd edition of the Kenya Communications Sports Organisation (KECOSO) Games from  August 19-26.

“We are now between a rock and a hard place. Our homeground Gusii Stadium is undergoing renovations while our second home in Narok is unsuitable. Since the inspection team has endorsed Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay, we shall play our home matches in Homa Bay,” said Kerama.

The renovations at Gusii Stadium started on Monday and the works will tentatively be concluded by December according to Governor Simba Arati.

Since Homa Bay cannot host high profile matches, Kerama said their home games involving KPL champions Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards will be played at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.

Kerama appealed to the county government of Kisii to expedite the renovations. “We don’t want a situation where we play our home matches away from home. Our fans supported us in NSL and we want them to enjoy games at Gusii Stadium,” he added.

Shabana will continue with their pre season on Saturday when they play Muhoroni Youth at Muhoroni Stadium.

Shabana will play newbies Murang’a Seal on August 27 in the opening game of the season.
