Two suspects have been arrested in Narok County for allegedly vandalizing a bridge under construction over the Ewaso Nyiro River and stealing structural metal beams from the site.

Suspects Apprehended

The suspects, identified as Peter Mwangi and Jane Ndung’u Mtua, were caught in the act following a tip-off from alert residents. A white lorry, registration number KBY 213H, was reportedly spotted loading the stolen beams, prompting officers from Ntulele Police Station to intervene.

The lorry was intercepted at the Nairegie-Enkare junction, where police arrested the suspects and seized the vehicle along with the stolen materials.

DCI Statement and Warning

In a statement released on Friday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed the arrests and the recovery of multiple metal beams.

“The driver, Peter Mwangi, and his accomplice, Jane Ndung’u Mtua, were arrested and escorted to Ntulele Police Station. Legal action is underway,” the statement read.

The DCI also issued a stern warning against vandalizing public infrastructure, emphasizing that such acts will face the full force of the law.

Community’s Role

The arrests highlight the critical role of community vigilance in protecting public resources. Local residents played a significant part in thwarting the crime by promptly reporting suspicious activities to law enforcement.

Importance of Safeguarding Infrastructure

As Kenya continues to invest in infrastructure development, cases of vandalism remain a significant challenge. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to safeguarding such projects, warning that tampering with critical infrastructure not only disrupts public services but also attracts severe legal consequences.
