Reports coming in indicate that Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has been shot in the leg in Bulindo, Uganda.

News of this broke through a statement on X, one of the social media handles of Bobi Wine.

The statement read: “Our President Bobi Wine has been shot in the leg by police in Bulindo!”

The message further read, “He’s been rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention. We’ll keep the country updated on his situation.”

It added that an update would follow with regard to more information when available.

Bobi Wine is a multifaceted individual: he is a politician, singer, lawyer, and actor. He was the Member of Parliament for Kyadondo County East constituency in Wakiso District, Central Region of Uganda.

He is the leader of the National Unity Platform, one of the major opposition parties in Uganda.

He announced his candidature for the presidency in the 2021 presidential elections in June 2019, pitting himself against the incumbent, President Yoweri Museveni.

Despite running an aggressive campaign and being wildly popular, Bobi Wine lost the election to Museveni. This did nothing to dampen his influence and activism.

Bobi Wine is known to be vocal about political and social matters in Uganda. Regularly, he expresses criticism against the government’s policy and action.

His activism has been characterized by rallies and protests that sometimes get contentious.

In Kampala, he has led demonstrations against what he describes as poor infrastructure and other societal problems.
