Ulinzi Starlets retained the FKF Women’s Super Cup title after a 2-0 win over Vihiga Queens at Utalii grounds in Nairobi on Saturday.

Joy Kinglady and Mercy Airo scored for Ulinzi as they began their 2023/24 season with the pre-season trophy.

The game’s turning point came just five minutes before halftime when Kinglady placed the ball into the net, granting Ulinzi Starlets a crucial lead and momentum before the halftime break.

In the 58th minute, Airo maneuvered past Vihiga Queens’ defense to score the second goal for Ulinzi Starlets.

The full-time whistle marked the end of the game, with Ulinzi Starlets emerging triumphant with a 2-0 scoreline.

This victory sets the stage for the 2023/24 FKF Women Premier League season, scheduled to kick off on Saturday, October 7, 2023.

In the upcoming season, both teams will clash once more, but this time Vihiga Queens will enjoy home advantage in the opening fixtures.

In the first round of the FKF-WPL, the defending champions, Vihiga Queens, will begin their title defense against Ulinzi Starlets, while last season’s runners-up, Gaspo FC, will host Bunyore Starlets at Stima Club.

League debutants Bungoma Queens will face off against league returnees, Kibera Soccer Ladies. Meanwhile, Soccer Assassins, also newcomers to the top tier, will take on Kenya Police Bullets. These newly promoted teams will be eager to retain their top-flight status for another season.

The transfer window closed on Friday last week ahead of the league kick-off.
