Malkia Strikers have have been congratulated by the head of state President William Ruto for reaching the finals of the Women’s Africa Volleyball Championship 

The 21st edition of the Women’s African Volleyball Championship has been ongoing in Yaoundé, Cameroon from August 16 with the final being played on Thursday, August 24. The top three teams of the tournament will qualify for the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship as the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) representatives. Malkia’s victory at a fully packed Palais Polyvalent des Sports arena in the capital Yaounde also secured them a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“Congratulations to the Malkia Strikers on reaching the final of the Women’s Africa Volleyball Championship and earning a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics,” Said Ruto. Malkia Strikers came back from a set down to beat hosts Cameroon 3-1 (25-27, 25-14, 25-11, 25-18) to set up a clash with Egypt in the final match.

“Finish the job against Egypt in the final tonight and come home as Queens of Africa. Kenya will be watching and cheering,” the President said.

Kenya was pooled in Group B alongside Morocco, Rwanda, Uganda, Burkina Faso and Lesotho. On their way to the finals, Kenya beat Rwanda 3-0 in their opening game on August 16, beat Uganda by the same margin on August 18, won 3-1 against Morocco on August 19 and trounced Lesotho 3-0 on August 20 before beating Cameroon 3-1 in the semis on Thursday.
