We can challenge for KPL title, Mwalala - Kenyan News

Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) coach Bernard Mwalala believes his charges can challenge for the Kenya Premier title.

Mwalala an experienced coach who handled Kakamega Homeboyz, Nzoia Sugar, Bandari, and Ulinzi Stars says KCB is in contention for the 2023/24 title.

“Yes. We have been regular campaigners finishing in the top four positions in the last four seasons. So this season, we want to go for the title,” said Mwalala.

Mwalala who spoke with reporters after his team held Shabana to a 1-1 draw at Kisii School, noted that so far he has had good preparations. “Our management has given us ample time to prepare and they have given us the target of lifting the KPL,” Mwalala noted.

The tactician took over from Zedekiah Zico Otieno after the expiry of his contract. Elvis Ayany was named Mwalala’s assistant. On Wednesday, Mwalala said: “With t he support of the management, technical bench and players, I’m confident we shall perform well in the league and meet our targets,” he noted.

Mwalala said he is lining up three more matches before the league kicks off on August 26. However, the Bankers will not be action as their opponents Kakamega Homeboyz will be hosting Libya’s  Al Hilal Benghazi in a CAF Confederations preliminary stage game at Nyayo National Stadium. “This will give us enough time to prepare for the league. By the time we play AFC Leopards, I expect the team to be ready for the league,” he noted.
