A bizarre incident has unfolded in Uasin Gishu County, where a man allegedly set up an illegal police patrol base in Cherus Centre, Kesses Sub-County. Authorities have identified the suspect as Collins Leitich, also known as Chepkulei, a resident of Asis Village in Ndugulu. Leitich reportedly painted the structure in official police colors, creating the illusion of a legitimate security post, all without the knowledge or approval of the National Police Service (NPS).

Unauthorized Police Post Discovered

The suspicious setup came to light after local authorities noticed the unauthorized police patrol base. Officers from Kamuyu Police Post, operating under Kondoo Police Station, were alerted and recorded the matter in Occurrence Book number OB04/08/03/2025.

Shocked residents admitted they had assumed the station was legitimate.

“We thought this was an initiative to enhance security in our area. It’s surprising to learn it wasn’t official,” said one local resident.

Motivation Under Investigation

Authorities are still probing Leitich’s intentions behind establishing the fake patrol base. The incident has left many puzzled, and questions remain as to whether the setup was for personal gain or a misguided attempt to provide security.

Police have reassured the community that appropriate action will be taken against the suspect as investigations continue.

A Cautionary Tale

This case highlights the importance of public vigilance when engaging with law enforcement entities. Residents are encouraged to verify the authenticity of security installations in their areas to avoid being misled by unauthorized individuals.

The National Police Service has emphasized that any establishment of police facilities must be officially sanctioned to maintain law and order.
