A dramatic incident unfolded in Trans Nzoia County earlier today as a mob disrupted an Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) operation at the residence of Governor George Natembeya. The raid was part of an investigation into allegations of irregular procurement and fraudulent payments amounting to Ksh. 1.4 billion by the county government.

Mob Obstructs Justice
The EACC, armed with court-issued search warrants, was conducting searches at Governor Natembeya’s home, his office, and properties linked to four other individuals implicated in the investigation. The alleged financial malpractices are said to have occurred during the 2022/2023 to 2024/2025 fiscal years, focusing on suspected misuse of public funds in county projects.
The operation was proceeding under the watchful eyes of the governor’s family, the county attorney, and legal representatives when chaos erupted.
Violence Halts Investigation
According to reports, an unidentified group stormed the governor’s residence, overwhelming security personnel stationed at the scene. The attackers vandalized five EACC vehicles, looted seized items, and caused widespread disruption.
The incident is being viewed as a deliberate attempt to obstruct justice and derail investigations into alleged corruption in Trans Nzoia County.
Authorities Condemn the Attack
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a probe into the attack, vowing swift action against those responsible.
“This act of violence is not just an assault on EACC officers; it is a direct attack on the integrity of Kenya’s justice system,” stated a senior investigator familiar with the case.
Authorities have underscored the need to uphold the rule of law and ensure that those behind the disruption are held accountable.
Ongoing Investigations
The EACC’s investigation is centered on claims of irregular procurement and fraudulent payments tied to major county projects, including the rehabilitation of Kenyatta Stadium, the construction of county headquarters, and the development of Tom Mboya Hospital.
The DCI has assured the public that all evidence tampered with or stolen during the raid will be recovered, and the individuals responsible for the violence will face the full force of the law.
Call for Justice
This incident highlights the challenges faced by anti-corruption agencies in combating graft in Kenya. As investigations continue, the public eagerly awaits transparency and accountability from both law enforcement and elected officials.
