CS MURKOMEN VOWS JUSTICE FOR MISSING BRIAN ODHIAMBO AFTER EMOTIONAL PLEA FROM MOTHER - Kenyan News

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen made a heartfelt promise to Brian Odhiambo’s mother during a public event in Nakuru on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, after she interrupted his speech to demand answers about her missing son.

Dressed in a black T-shirt emblazoned with the words “Justice for my son,” Brian’s mother courageously walked to the dais, momentarily halting the event. Despite attempts by security to stop her, Murkomen intervened, inviting her to speak privately before continuing his address.

A Mother’s Fight for Justice

The woman, identified as Elizabeth Auma, is the mother of Brian Odhiambo, a fisherman who went missing in January after reportedly being detained by Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers at Lake Nakuru. Speaking to the crowd after hearing her concerns, Murkomen assured her that investigations into her son’s disappearance were progressing and promised accountability for those involved.

“All officers linked to this incident will be taken to court and dismissed from their positions. This is a direct message from the government: Brian did nothing wrong to warrant his disappearance. Even if he had, due process should have been followed,” Murkomen declared.

Investigations Reveal Corruption Network

The CS further revealed that ongoing investigations had uncovered a criminal syndicate within KWS, allegedly controlling illegal fish trade at Lake Nakuru. He speculated that Brian’s disappearance might be connected to this network.

“A few KWS officers are exploiting their positions to protect illegal fish sales, attacking those who try to fish outside their control. Instead of safeguarding Kenyans and enforcing rules about fishing in Lake Nakuru, they’ve turned to illegal activities,” Murkomen stated.

He added that evidence points to some officers’ involvement in preventing locals from fishing under the guise of protecting unsafe fish while simultaneously engaging in illicit trade.

Commitment to Accountability

Murkomen pledged to issue an official government statement on Brian’s case within a week, pending the conclusion of investigations. He vowed to ensure justice for Brian and others who have disappeared under suspicious circumstances.

“This government will not tolerate situations where citizens go missing without explanation. I stand in solidarity with Brian’s family and others affected by such injustices,” Murkomen affirmed.

A Case Plagued with Twists

Since Brian’s disappearance on January 18, 2025, his case has been marred by contradictions and controversy. Arrested officers initially linked to the incident were acquitted after claiming Brian escaped custody. A body recovered from Lake Nakuru was later confirmed not to be his, prolonging the family’s agony.

Recently, Brian’s mother, wife, and brother were briefly detained outside KWS gates as they sought answers. Their determination underscores the family’s resilience in seeking justice amid bureaucratic hurdles.
