Tragedy struck in Buuri, Meru County, when two young girls tragically lost their lives in a fire that engulfed their home. The incident occurred on May 19 in Mutethis area at a rental house, leaving the community in shock.

Mother’s Errand Turns Tragic

The victims, aged just two years, had been left at home by their mother, who locked the house as she went out to run errands. Sadly, a fire broke out during her absence, consuming the entire house and leaving the two girls unable to escape.

Emergency responders and neighbors arrived too late to save the children. Witnesses reported that the devastated mother collapsed upon learning of her children’s death. She was later stabilized by medical personnel.


Investigations Underway

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire. Police moved the bodies to the local mortuary as investigations and preparations for autopsies continue.

Kisii Dormitory Fire Injures 23 Students

On the same day, a fire broke out at Amabuko Mixed Day and Boarding Secondary School in Ramasha, Kisii County. The incident occurred at around 8 p.m., causing a stampede as students tried to escape.

At least 23 students sustained injuries, with 20 treated and discharged from Keroka Level 4 Hospital. Three students remain hospitalized in stable condition. Police are investigating the cause of the fire, which also resulted in significant property damage.

Drowning Incident in Nyacheki

In a separate case in Nyacheki, Kisii County, a 40-year-old man, identified as George Nyanamba, was discovered dead in River Mogonga in Isena village. Authorities suspect drowning, but investigations are ongoing.

Train Accident in Bungoma County

Meanwhile, in Webuye, Bungoma County, 20-year-old Joseph Barasa was fatally injured after being struck by a train in the Joyland area along the Webuye-Sudi section. Despite being rushed to Webuye Sub-county Hospital, Barasa succumbed to his injuries.
