A 29-year-old househelp, Fleviar Muhonja Anaya, has been arrested for allegedly stealing Ksh.2.2 million from her employer’s home. Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Nairobi Regional Headquarters and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau tracked and apprehended the suspect after an extensive manhunt.

How the Theft Happened
The incident occurred on March 16, 2025, when Muhonja was left alone in the house. A security guard later noticed her leaving with a large carrier bag. When questioned, she claimed she was delivering an item for her employer.
However, suspicion arose when the employer tried to reach Muhonja, only to find her phone switched off. Upon returning home, she discovered that the money had been stolen, prompting her to report the matter to the authorities.
DCI Investigation and Arrest
Following a forensic-led investigation, detectives tracked Muhonja to Malava, Kakamega County, where she was arrested. She later led officers to Kapsoi, Vihiga County, where Ksh.700,000 was recovered from her grandmother’s house.
Further searches at her rural home in Kipkaren, Uasin Gishu County, uncovered three chain links purchased using the stolen money. The investigation also extended to Nairobi’s South B, Fuata Nyayo area, where detectives seized an additional Ksh.800,000 from a rented house linked to the suspect.
Muhonja is currently in police custody at Capitol Hill Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in court soon.
