Moi University has issued a redundancy notice to employees, citing a significant revenue decline caused by a drop in student enrollment. The notice, signed by Vice Chancellor Prof. Kiplagat Kotut, confirms that affected employees will be those under the University Academic Staff Union (UASU), in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

According to the university, the reduction in student numbers has severely impacted its financial standing, making it difficult to meet payroll obligations and sustain operations. As a result, the institution has opted to restructure its workforce to ensure long-term sustainability. The management has assured that all affected employees will receive severance pay, salary in lieu of notice, compensation for accrued leave days, and any other pending benefits.

During the notice period, the university will engage in consultations with the affected staff and their union representatives, following due legal processes. This latest development highlights the broader financial struggles facing public universities in Kenya, many of which are grappling with reduced government funding and operational challenges.
