Tusker FC head coach Julien Mette has praised his players for their attitude, fighting spirit, and ease of adapting, after Sunday afternoon’s 2-0 victory over Kakamega Homeboyz in Mwea.
The tactician said the team had to adapt to a new approach due to the nature of the playing surface and the playing style of the opponent, adding he was delighted the boys could come off with maximum points.
“I am feeling relieved because it was a difficult match with the pitch, and it was almost a nightmare. But I am very happy that at the end we got a win. It was not a good moment, and not a beautiful game, but it was a reward for the players and their hard work,” coach Mette said.
The Frenchman was delighted with how the team fared in pressure situations and the calmness they retained.
“It was difficult to do three or four passes, and this is how we prepare to play as a team. We switched our strength to become fighters. We are artists, but sometimes you must become a fighter. Sometimes, you must do both if you want to win titles: playing well. They (Homeboyz) offered us a fight, and we had to respond, especially with the aerial duels, to be able to keep possession under pressure. “
At the same time, the coach has warned that no one should be assured of a starting place, and positions will only be given on merit. He praised keeper Pavelh Ndzila for his performance on debut, saying it has now created a new headache for the goalkeeping department.
“It was a very important performance for Pavelh after four very good games by Brandon (Obiero), and it is now a challenge with the keepers. We also have very good center-backs and full-backs, and in each position, you can switch players and still be strong. It is a good headache because for the players, if you lose, you can go out and those who work well go in,” the tactician said.
He now hopes the team can take the momentum into the next game, with a date against AFC Leopards coming up on Sunday.
