The lush fairways of Ruiru Sports Club came alive over the weekend as golfers gathered
for the highly anticipated Chairman’s Prize Tournament, a competitive event that drew
participants from various divisions and showcased impressive talent across the board.
Emerging as the overall winner was Judy Nyambura (Handicap 14), who delivered an
outstanding performance to post 43 points and clinch the coveted top prize. Her
consistency and precision throughout the 18-hole course set her apart in a tightly
contested field.
In Division A, Ngumo Kingori (Hcp 12) secured the Men’s Winner title with 38 points,
narrowly edging out Johnson Ngugi (Hcp 12), who finished as runner-up on the same
score. In the ladies’ category, Catherine Wambui (Hcp 7) impressed with 39 points to take
top honours, while Pam Nkirote (Hcp 20) followed closely with 38 points.
Speaking after her victory, Nyambura said: “I am truly honored to win the Chairman’s
Prize, especially in such a competitive field with over 300 golfers. It was not easy out
there, but I stayed focused, trusted my game, and remained patient throughout the round.
This victory means a lot to me, and it motivates me to keep improving and competing at
a higher level.”
Division B saw strong performances, with Stephen Kungu (Hcp 16) winning the men’s
category on 42 points, ahead of Peter Kamau (Hcp 25) who posted 41 points. Margaret
Kariuki (Hcp 30) led the ladies with 40 points, while Edith Ngugi (Hcp 25) claimed the
runner-up position with 38 points.
In Division C, Alex Ndirangu (Hcp 31) matched the day’s top score of 43 points to win the
men’s category, while Roselene Mwaura (Hcp 42) stood out among the ladies with an
impressive 44 points, one of the highest scores of the tournament.
Special category winners also delivered notable performances. Kelvin Chege (Hcp 25)
and Peter Githinji (Hcp 18) shared honours in the men’s first and second nine with 22
points each, while Anne Ngumba (Hcp 22) and Catherine Gitonga (Hcp 17) led the ladies’
nine-hole contests.
Kelvin Metto (Hcp 3) claimed the Gross Winner title with a solid score of 77, demonstrating
technical excellence. In the junior category, Melvin Kungu (Hcp 30) posted 36 points to
emerge victorious.
Among sponsors and guests, Erick Ratemo (Hcp 29) was named KCB Staff Winner with
36 points, while Charles Mathenge (Hcp 32) took the Sponsor Winner title with 35 points.
James Makau (Hcp 13) finished as sponsor runner-up with 31 points
Guest players also made their mark, with Chrispin Sankale (Hcp 18) winning the Guest
Men’s category on 40 points, followed by Paul Mukundi (Hcp 20) on 38 points. Rose
Wachira (Hcp 29) topped the Guest Ladies’ category with 36 points.
Skill awards added flair to the event, with Terra Saidimu winning Longest Drive (Men),
while Catherine Wambui capped an excellent day by taking both Longest Drive (Lady)
and Nearest to the Pin (Lady).
