In a heartfelt gesture during the National Prayer Breakfast held at Safari Park, President William Ruto issued an apology to Tanzania, Uganda, and the Kenyan youth, urging for reconciliation and the strengthening of bilateral ties.

Apology to Tanzania and Uganda
Acknowledging past tensions, President Ruto extended a public apology to Kenya’s neighboring countries, Tanzania and Uganda.
“To our neighbors in Tanzania, if we have wronged you in any way, we humbly ask for forgiveness. To our friends in Uganda, if any actions by Kenyans have caused harm, we sincerely apologize,” he stated.
The apology came amidst strained relations between Kenya and Tanzania following the deportation of Kenyan activists who were in Tanzania to observe the court proceedings of opposition leader Tundu Lissu. The incident sparked a heated online debate and political exchanges between the two countries.
Reaching Out to Kenyan Youth
Ruto also addressed the grievances of Kenyan youth, who have grown increasingly disillusioned with the government, particularly after the 2024 anti-tax protests that led to violent clashes and fatalities.
“To our young people, if we have faltered in our actions or decisions, we seek your forgiveness. We are committed to rebuilding trust and fostering a brighter future,” he said.
The protests, driven by high taxation and alleged mismanagement by the Kenya Kwanza administration, deepened the rift between the youth and the ruling government.
Call for National Unity
President Ruto emphasized the need for Kenyans to embrace reconciliation and focus on nation-building.
“Let us find less fault with one another and focus more on building bridges that will make us a stronger and united nation. The future of Kenya is bright, and our best days are ahead,” he expressed with optimism.
Historical Context
The President’s remarks come against the backdrop of unresolved issues from the 2024 protests, where the government faced criticism over the use of force against demonstrators and accusations of financial mismanagement.
Regionally, the deportation incident involving Kenyan activists further strained relations with Tanzania, leading to public and political discord across both nations.
A Vision of Hope
President Ruto concluded his address by reaffirming his faith in Kenya’s potential for growth and prosperity, urging all citizens to work together in the spirit of unity and reconciliation.
