A tragic accident involving three trailers on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway has claimed one life and caused significant traffic disruptions. The collision occurred at the Jet Inn area near a railway bridge, leading to a complete roadblock on the busy highway.

Details of the Incident
The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed the fatal accident and announced ongoing efforts to clear the road. NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga revealed that the accident, which took place between Emali and Masimba, has caused gridlock in both directions.
Police officers and other emergency response teams are working to manage the situation and restore normal traffic flow.
Traffic Advisory
To alleviate congestion, the NPS has issued alternative route suggestions:
- Mombasa-bound vehicles: Use the Machakos–Wote–Makindu route.
- Nairobi-bound vehicles: Follow the Makindu–Wote–Machakos route.
“We urge motorists to exercise patience, maintain lane discipline, and consider the suggested routes to ensure safety and ease congestion,” the NPS statement urged.
Call for Road Safety
The NPS has reiterated its commitment to maintaining order and safety on Kenya’s roads. The agency also appealed to motorists to observe traffic rules, especially during emergencies, to minimize further risks.
This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for heightened caution on highways, particularly on high-traffic corridors like the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.
