In his continued efforts to empower grassroots communities, President William Ruto has unveiled a new initiative targeting women and youth across Kenya’s wards. Speaking during a church service in Nairobi on May 22, 2025, Ruto announced that 70 women and youth groups in every ward will receive Ksh. 50,000 each to establish businesses.

This initiative aligns with the President’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which he has championed since his election. The program aims to uplift those at the grassroots level, impacting an estimated 100,000 youth nationwide.
Driving Economic Empowerment
“We are focusing on uplifting those at the bottom,” President Ruto stated. “Those criticizing me are already at the top; they should allow me to focus on helping those who truly need support.”
Ruto emphasized that the program represents a commitment to empowering marginalized groups, particularly women and youth, to participate actively in economic development.
Defiance Against Critics
The President dismissed criticism of his administration, affirming his commitment to fulfilling his mandate.
“I am focused because God gave me this assignment to lead and transform Kenya. The noise from critics will not derail my mission,” Ruto said, reiterating his dedication to delivering meaningful change for Kenyans.
Addressing Long-Standing Issues
In addition to the financial empowerment program, Ruto criticized past governments for failing to deliver on promises such as Universal Health Coverage and affordable housing. He assured Kenyans that his administration is fully committed to addressing these issues.
“I have the determination, focus, and time to transform Kenya. Intimidation and name-calling will not deter me from achieving this mission,” he added.
Major Infrastructure Projects
Ruto also announced a significant urban development initiative—a Ksh. 40 billion Nairobi River clean-up project. The project, which includes the construction of a modern sewage system, is expected to be completed by January 2027, promising to improve sanitation and environmental conditions in the capital.
