In a bold and controversial claim, Judith Nafula, a devout Catholic from Nangoma village in Matayos Constituency, Busia County, has declared herself to be Mary, Mother of Jesus, reincarnated. Her proclamation has sparked a mix of fascination, skepticism, and debate across her local community and beyond.

Vision of Divinity

Nafula recounted a vivid spiritual encounter that she claims revealed her divine identity.

“A light descended from heaven, with Jesus at its center,” Nafula shared in an interview with NTV. “He asked me where Mother Mary was, and I responded that I did not know. He then revealed to me that I am Mother Mary and that it was time for people to recognize my true identity.”

Following this vision, Nafula explained that she was led by the Holy Spirit to a nearby hill, where she spent two months in solitude, engaging in what she described as divine conversations.

A Miraculous Confirmation

In a surprising turn, Nafula’s husband, John Wekullo, also claimed to have received a vision identifying him as Joseph, Mary’s biblical spouse. Together, they assert that they have been bestowed with miraculous powers.

Nafula’s alleged miracles include aiding women struggling with infertility and healing the sick. Her growing following has drawn visitors from neighboring regions seeking blessings and prayers.

“People are beginning to recognize her abilities,” her sister-in-law stated. “We have seen women who couldn’t conceive now bearing children, and the sick returning with testimonies of healing.”

Clash with the Church

Nafula’s declarations and actions have not been without controversy. Her local church expelled her, labeling her claims as blasphemous and dismissing her as mentally unstable.

“They called me mad and threw me out of the church,” Nafula lamented. Despite this, her following continues to grow, fueled by testimonials from those who believe in her divine powers.

Community Reactions

While some locals have embraced Nafula’s claims, others remain skeptical, viewing her assertions as blasphemous or as a cry for attention. Cases of individuals declaring themselves as divine figures are not new in Kenya, often eliciting both intrigue and criticism.

“Many such claims in the past have been dismissed as delusions or publicity stunts,” remarked a local observer.

A Growing Movement

Despite the polarizing nature of her claims, Nafula’s influence in the region is undeniable. Her homestead has become a hub for spiritual seekers, with some hailing her as a miracle worker and a messenger of divine intervention.
