Race-walker Eric Shikuku, sprinters Grace Kidake and Sylvia Chesebe are some of the athletes that displayed a great show at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Saturday during the Athletics Kenya Masters trials for the 2026 World Championships slated for Daegu, South Korea from 22nd August to 3rd September.
Shikuku who won a gold medal in the 10km walk-race in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2024 emerged victorious in his trademark event as Kidake and Chesebe led from gun to finish in two separate 400m races.
Iten-based Florence Chepsoi won the women’s 10,000m with ease, as he participated in the masters athletics for the first time. World champion Rosaline David who hails from West Pokot settled for a second place in the same race under chilly conditions.
Athletics Kenya Masters chairman Stephen Ole Marai has expressed optimism of an improved medal tally in the Asian country following their stellar show in the last edition that was staged in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2024 where Kenya bagged 26 medals (7 gold, 10 silver and 9 bronze).
