Democracy for Citizens Party leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dropped shocking allegations, claiming that President William Ruto’s government attempted to assassinate him shortly after his recent return from the United States. The dramatic claims have sparked heated debate across the country, with many questioning the safety of political leaders and the state of democracy in Kenya.

GACHAGUA CLAIMS HIS LIFE WAS TARGETED NEAR PIPELINE, NAIROBI

Speaking during a live interview on Citizen TV’s “The Explainer” show on Tuesday night, Gachagua alleged that a highly coordinated assassination attempt was made against him on the night he landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

According to Gachagua, a special police unit disguised as goons was strategically deployed to ambush his convoy near Pipeline estate, Nairobi. He further claimed that the operation was designed to create the impression that his convoy had been attacked by hired hooligans.

He revealed that the plan allegedly involved police officers infiltrating groups of youths stationed along his route, while a civilian helicopter hovered above the scene to monitor the situation.

“AN OBJECT WAS DROPPED ON MY CAR” – GACHAGUA

The former Deputy President sensationally claimed that during the attempted attack, an unidentified object was dropped onto his vehicle, but he managed to escape unharmed.

The incident, he said, forced him to cancel a planned rally at Kamukunji Grounds after his team’s intelligence unit reported the presence of heavily armed youths positioned along the rally’s route.

WARNING TO CS KIPCHUMBA MURKOMEN

Gachagua did not mince his words as he directly warned Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen against allegedly allowing state-sponsored violence. He stated that his assassination would have plunged Kenya into chaos and possible civil war.

“If Murkomen had killed me, there would be no country. Kenya would have gone into civil war,” Gachagua declared.

He further claimed that there were initial plans to have him arrested immediately upon arrival at the airport but alleged that the presence of his supporters disrupted the supposed operation.

GOVERNMENT YET TO RESPOND

So far, President Ruto’s administration has remained silent on the matter, with no official government response issued regarding Gachagua’s explosive claims.

The allegations, however, have already gained momentum on social media, with Kenyans expressing mixed reactions—some demanding an independent investigation while others dismissing the claims as political drama.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR KENYA’S POLITICAL LANDSCAPE

Gachagua’s remarks come at a time when political divisions in Kenya are widening, with opposition leaders accusing the government of authoritarian tendencies. If proven true, these allegations would raise serious concerns about democracy, rule of law, and political tolerance in the country.

The coming days are expected to be critical as pressure mounts on the government to clarify its position and assure Kenyans of leaders’ safety regardless of political affiliation.
