Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has commended a group of Murang’a County Assembly (MCA) members for what he described as their courage, integrity, and strong stand against corruption.
In a statement shared on his official X account, Gachagua alleged that the MCAs were each offered a Ksh 300,000 bribe to attend a meeting at State House. He dismissed the gathering as a “staged comedy session” whose purpose, he claimed, was to spread propaganda and sow division in the Mt. Kenya region.
“I salute the members of Murang’a County Assembly for their integrity and unwavering stand against corruption. They refused to accept a Ksh 300,000 bribe to attend a staged comedy session at State House, where falsehoods were peddled, and schemes to divide and betray the mountain were orchestrated,” Gachagua stated.

The MCAs instead chose to visit Gachagua at his residence, where they reportedly discussed unity, development, and the political direction of Mt. Kenya. The former DP lauded their loyalty, saying their decision was a clear demonstration of political maturity and their commitment to safeguarding the interests of their people.
This incident has sparked intense debate in political circles, with supporters praising the MCAs for rejecting alleged corruption while critics argue that the standoff reflects the widening political rifts in the Mt. Kenya region.
