Businesswoman and politician Agnes Kagure has intensified her campaign for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat, boldly declaring that she will unseat Governor Johnson Sakaja in 2027 with a commanding 70% victory margin.
Kagure Rallies Voters to Register
In a passionate Facebook post, Kagure told supporters that her projected win would only be possible if Nairobi residents took advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise.
“Our 70% win in 2027 will be made possible by you and everyone you know registering to vote. Jisajili leo ili tuonyeshe wale majamaa dust na tulete maendeleo. Quick check — are you registered?” she wrote.
Kagure, the leader of the Kenya Patriots Party, emphasized that the ballot is the strongest voice citizens have to demand accountability and better leadership.
“If you want leaders who listen, you must first register to speak at the ballot. Your vote is your strongest voice. Mapema ndio best, ama vipi?” she added.
Criticism of Sakaja’s Leadership
Kagure has frequently criticized Sakaja’s administration, particularly over insecurity in Nairobi’s Central Business District. Earlier this month, she raised alarm over daylight muggings in the CBD, warning that unchecked crime was stifling economic growth.
“The CBD is the heart of our city, and we can’t achieve prosperity when crime is the norm,” she posted.
While police operations had netted over 200 suspects, Kagure insisted that permanent solutions such as street lighting, CCTV systems, and structured security measures were needed to restore public confidence.
Possible Alliance With Mike Sonko
Speculation over Kagure’s political strategy grew recently after she met with former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, shortly after Sakaja survived an impeachment attempt.
Although details of their meeting remain private, Kagure later revealed they had discussed Nairobi’s “worrying state” and the need for decisive leadership. The timing has fueled talk of a possible alliance, as Sonko remains a highly influential figure in city politics despite his 2020 impeachment.
Looking Ahead to 2027
With the 2027 General Election still two years away, Kagure’s early push highlights the competitive landscape of Nairobi politics. Her bold confidence in securing a landslide win sets the stage for what could be one of the most fiercely contested gubernatorial races in recent history.
