Migori, Kenya – The Officer Commanding Station (OCS) of Ntimaru Police Station, Daniel Muchiri, who was arrested for attending a high-profile government security forum while intoxicated, has been released pending disciplinary action.

Muchiri was apprehended on Tuesday after showing up drunk at the Jukwaa la Usalama forum in Migori, which was presided over by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen. His conduct drew public attention and immediate intervention from fellow officers.

According to an official police report, Muchiri was first subjected to a breathalyzer test to confirm his state of intoxication before being referred to Migori Referral Hospital for additional medical evaluation.

Suna East Sub-County Police Commander Samwel Boit confirmed that the officer was detained at Suna East Police Station for several hours before being freed. Boit emphasized that investigations are ongoing and disciplinary measures will follow in accordance with police service regulations.

The incident has stirred debate on professionalism within the National Police Service, especially during official state forums that involve top government officials. Observers argue that the episode underscores the need for stricter internal controls and enforcement of discipline among officers to maintain public trust.

CS Murkomen, who chaired the forum, had convened stakeholders to discuss local security strategies and strengthen collaboration between law enforcement and the community. The embarrassing spectacle, however, briefly overshadowed the intended agenda of the meeting.

Authorities assured the public that corrective measures will be applied firmly to uphold discipline and accountability within the force.
