A fresh wave of fear and outrage has gripped Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after a second patient was found brutally murdered inside the same ward where another grisly killing occurred just months ago.

On Thursday at 2:00 p.m., the body of a 54-year-old male patient was discovered lying lifeless in Ward 7B, drenched in blood with a deep slash across his throat. The scene was chillingly similar to the previous murder of 39-year-old Gilbert Kinyua, who was also killed in the same ward under eerily identical circumstances.

BLOODY TRAIL RAISES ALARM OVER KNH PATIENT SAFETY

The victim was found lying motionless in his bed, positioned directly opposite the exact spot where Kinyua was slain. Blood pooled beneath the bed and stained the floor, pointing to what appears to be a targeted and vicious attack.

This second tragedy now raises urgent questions:

  • Is there a serial killer targeting patients?
  • How safe are inpatients at Kenya’s largest referral hospital?

INVESTIGATIONS UNDERWAY AS HOMICIDE DETECTIVES TAKE OVER

The hospital immediately became a crime scene, with the DCI Homicide Division, Government Chemist forensic teams, and other investigative units sealing off the area to collect evidence and interview staff and witnesses.

Authorities have yet to release the victim’s identity but confirmed that the manner of death closely resembles the earlier murder pattern. Surveillance footage is also being reviewed to trace any unusual activity within the ward.

VISITATION RESTRICTED AS FAMILIES PANIC

In the aftermath, KNH management imposed strict visitor limitations, allowing only one person per patient and for a very limited time. Family members who had come to check on loved ones were met with tense security checks, adding to the anxiety and confusion.

“This is horrifying. We thought hospitals were safe. Now it feels like anything can happen—even to patients who are weak and helpless,” said a concerned relative who had just arrived to visit.

A WARD UNDER SIEGE: IS KNH DOING ENOUGH?

With two murders now confirmed within the same ward, critics are calling out KNH for lax security and failure to safeguard vulnerable patients.

“The fact that a second killing has occurred in the same location is beyond alarming. What measures are in place? Where are the security cameras, and who is monitoring them?” one human rights advocate asked.

PUBLIC DEMANDS ANSWERS AS PRESSURE MOUNTS ON KNH

Kenyans online have taken to social media to demand transparency, justice for the victims, and immediate reforms at KNH. Many are asking whether this is the work of a serial assailant, an inside job, or a result of poor surveillance in public hospitals.

The Ministry of Health is now under pressure to respond decisively to prevent further bloodshed and restore confidence in the hospital’s security protocols.
