Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has issued a strong warning to Mediheal Hospital founder and former Kesses MP Dr. Swarup Mishra, citing possible deportation and hospital closure following a shocking report linking the facility to an international organ trafficking syndicate.

Speaking during a public event at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) on Friday, CS Duale criticized Dr. Mishra for his alleged involvement in the illegal harvesting and transplantation of human organs, which he said is both unethical and criminal. He accused Mishra of fostering a “culture of impunity” within his chain of hospitals and declared the government’s intent to take firm action.

“You cannot come to our country 20 years ago with just a bag, enrich yourself by selling human organs, become an MP, hire lawyers, and then threaten the government when we pursue justice,” Duale stated. “If it means revoking your citizenship and deporting you, we will do exactly that. We will not allow impunity to thrive in our healthcare system.”

ORGAN TRAFFICKING INVESTIGATION EXPOSES MASSIVE MEDIHEAL INVOLVEMENT

Duale’s remarks came days after receiving a damning 314-page report from the Independent Investigative Committee on Tissue and Organ Transplant Services. The report details the findings of a three-month national probe into illegal kidney transplants allegedly facilitated through Mediheal Hospital in Eldoret and other related institutions.

According to the findings, Mediheal Eldoret was responsible for 417 out of 452 recorded donor cases, representing 81% of all kidney donors and 76% of transplant recipients examined during the review period (2018–March 2025).

The investigation revealed:

  • 417 kidney donors and 340 recipients passed through Mediheal Eldoret alone.
  • Male patients accounted for 75% of the cases.
  • 44% of the kidney recipients were Kenyan residents, 16% were foreigners, while nearly 39% had no identifiable status, suggesting serious gaps in documentation or possible deliberate concealment.

INTERNATIONAL SYNDICATE AND UNKNOWN DONOR IDENTITIES

The taskforce report suggests the existence of an international organ trade network with potential links beyond Kenya’s borders. Data showed that a significant portion of donors had undocumented nationalities or failed to disclose their country of origin.

Among the non-Kenyan recipients were individuals from Israel and Uganda, while 60 donors had no known nationality, raising alarms about possible trafficking victims and forged records.

PARLIAMENT TO DELIBERATE FURTHER ACTION

The report’s adoption now awaits Parliament’s approval, after which criminal investigations and potential prosecutions could follow. The committee has recommended immediate legal action against Dr. Swarup Mishra and other Mediheal executives, pending further verification of their involvement.

Duale emphasized that Kenya would not become a haven for unethical medical practices and reiterated his commitment to protecting the dignity and rights of Kenyan citizens and vulnerable individuals globally.

“This is not just about health—it is about humanity, dignity, and justice. We will act decisively,” he concluded.
